Why the Redesign?
Why the Redesign?
Viewing account balance and transaction history are common tasks that users perform in any payment app, so these tasks should be as seamless as possible. However, when I evaluated Paytm's Balance & History page using Jakob Nielsen's heuristic principles and fundamental UX laws, I found several components that could be improved.

Solution - Iteration 1
Solution - Iteration 1
I looked up other pages in Paytm to find inspiration and to redesign according to their design language. Paytm mostly uses cards to differentiate various categories, Hence I used the same as it felt ideal in this case and also goes well with overall design.

Usability Testing
I tested the changes with 3 users. I assigned them the task of finding the amount paid for the electricity bill in April 2023.

Observation: All 3 users scrolled down the payment history instead of using the filters under the search bar to find the transaction. They were able to find the electricity bill payment for April 2023 easily.

“I naturally tend to scroll.”
“I would use filters for much older dates, but I mostly scroll to find recent transactions.”
“I didn’t notice the filters and feel they are not prominent enough”
“I saw the filters but scrolled down subconsciously. I would have returned to the filters if I couldn’t find what I was looking for quickly.”
“This feature will be helpful for me as I perform various types of transactions in Paytm.”

Key Learnings and Takeaways
Key Learnings and Takeaways
One of the reasons I chose to redesign this page is the number of list items it contains. I learned that creating component properties in Figma for list items is more complex than for any other UI element. Hence I took on the challenge and created a list item component that can be used in the entire page.
