Redesigning Enlyft's Information Architecture and Side Navigation

Helping B2B Businesses Identify
Their Ideal Customers with Ease

Overview

About the Company

Enlyft helps businesses discover new customers by providing access to data on millions of companies and their employees. Companies can use Enlyft’s powerful features to find businesses and contacts that match their ideal customer profile, making it easier to target the right audience.

About the Project

This project focuses on redesigning the information architecture (IA) of the Enlyft app, along with revamping the side navigation bar, which serves as the app's primary navigation.

I initiated this redesign after identifying key issues in the existing IA and developed a structured solution to improve usability and navigation.

Problems with Existing Navigation

User Persona/Roles in Enlyft App

Enlyft supports three distinct user roles, each with access to specific pages and features tailored to their tasks and goals within the app.

Exploration

I explored the information architecture and navigation design of several B2B applications to identify common approaches and determine which would work best for Enlyft.

The most common approaches were to have vertical navigation with two column layout or accordions which expand to show the options in each grouping.

Navigation Framework

We decided to have a standard framework of defining key areas within the app and grouping all the related pages into each area.

4 Key Areas

Based on the tasks each type of user performs in the app, I have defined 4 key areas within the app.

Information Architecture

Under each Key area, we have sorted all the individual pages and grouped them into categories.

Iterations

These are some of the initial versions of the side nav. We felt having a two column layout would be suitable for the app since there are key areas defined, However, this layout was not ideal for Salesperson users, as they typically have access to only one key area, making the layout appear unbalanced.

Final Design

After multiple iterations, we opted for an accordion-style navigation where each key area functions as an expandable section, revealing the pages within it.
